Earlier in the year we reported on the great work being done by local doctor Ronan Flynn with the Neri Clinics in administering to the poor people of the Linda compound in Lusaka, Zambia.

This compound is home to some 40,000 people who had no dedicated health care centre until the Neri Clinics was set up in 2008.

Like any charity, the Neri Clinics survives on the goodwill and generosity of the Irish public. Ronan was home in Shannon recently and has organised a tag rugby blitz in order to win the support of local companies while promoting the cause of the clinics.

The tag rugby event will be held at St Senan’s RFC on Saturday 3rd July and is run by the Irish Tag Rugby Association.

Entrance fee is €350 per team with a maximum of ten players and there will be prizes for the winners and raffle prizes including a weekend hotel break. Each team will play at least three games. After the day’s exertions, food and entertainment will be provided at Wolfe Tones GAA Club.

All funds will go towards providing much needed medical assistance in the third world. Teams are asked to register by June 27th by contacting Ronan Flynn at 087-9967309 or by email ronanpflynn@gmail.com.

Ronan is hoping to attract as much corporate interest as possible in the event and reminds companies that any donation over €250 is entitled to deduction of corporate tax (12.5%).

“Sporting events are a fantastic way to build bonds between friends and colleagues and to boost company morale. Raising money for a charity whilst taking part may be even more rewarding,” said Ronan.
